Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Launches 68th Asantehene Open Golf Championship at Royal Golf Club, Kumasi

His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, officially inaugurated the 68th Asantehene Open Golf Championship today at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi. The prestigious tournament, organized in collaboration with Telecel Ghana, commenced on June 11 and is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, June 14.
The ceremonial tee-off was attended by a distinguished assembly of traditional leaders, dignitaries, and golf enthusiasts. Notable figures present included the Chairman of the Royal Golf Club, Kwesi Atta Antwi; Sir Sam Jonah, a prominent businessman and philanthropist; and Telecel Ghana’s CEO, Patricia Obo-Nai. The event also attracted members of the club and spectators who gathered to witness the commencement of the championship.
In a display of royal presence and commitment to the sport, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was accompanied by his son, Oheneba Nana Kwame Kyeretwie. The duo received a warm welcome from the Asante Ivory trumpeters and Telecel Ghana executives upon their arrival at the golf course. The Asantehene showcased his golfing skills during the tournament, participating alongside Telecel Ghana officials and other distinguished personalities from the corporate world. His son, Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, observed the proceedings with keen interest, marking a rare public appearance together for the father and son duo.
The 68th Asantehene Open Golf Championship has attracted a diverse group of participants, including amateur and professional golfers from across the continent. The tournament is part of Telecel Ghana’s annual Ashanti Month celebrations, which aim to promote sports, culture, and community development in the Ashanti Region. As the headline sponsor for seven consecutive years, Telecel Ghana continues to play a pivotal role in elevating the tournament to international standards .
The championship offers a substantial prize pool, with the winner set to receive GHS 65,000. The total purse amounts to GHS 250,000, distributed among the top 24 players. The tournament’s structure includes various categories, ensuring broad participation and competition among golfers of different skill levels .
