Asante Akim Municipal Assembly Distributes 10,000 Nkokɔnkitinkiti Chicks to Beneficiary Farmers
The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly has distributed a total of 10,000 day-old chicks to selected beneficiary farmers under the government’s Nkokɔnkitinkiti poultry programme, as part of efforts to boost local poultry production and strengthen the municipal economy.

The exercise, which was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, forms part of the government’s broader agenda to revitalise the poultry sector, improve household incomes and create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth and small-scale farmers.
Addressing beneficiaries during the distribution, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akim Central, Hon. Rev. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, urged farmers to demonstrate commitment and responsibility in managing the chicks to ensure the success and sustainability of the programme. He emphasised that proper feeding, adequate housing, good sanitation and timely medication are essential to achieving the objectives of the initiative.

Hon. Rev. Ekow Aidoo disclosed that each beneficiary received 30 chicks, stressing that the impact of the programme would depend largely on the ability of farmers to apply best poultry management practices. He cautioned against negligence and poor handling of the birds, noting that such practices could undermine the government’s investment and the expected benefits of the intervention.
He further explained that the Nkokɔnkitinkiti programme is designed to reduce Ghana’s heavy reliance on imported poultry products by strengthening local production and supporting farmers to expand their operations. According to him, the initiative also seeks to enhance food security and promote agribusiness development at the local level.

The MCE encouraged beneficiaries to work closely with agricultural extension officers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for technical guidance and support, particularly in disease prevention and farm management, to ensure high survival rates and productivity.

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the implementation of the programme and providing the necessary support to beneficiaries to guarantee its success. With effective management and dedication from farmers, the Assembly expressed optimism that the Nkokɔnkitinkiti initiative would significantly improve livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to local economic growth.
