Apostle Dr. Amagashie Appeals to John Mahama to Establish Ministry for Herbal Medicine

Apostle Dr. Amagashie, a renowned herbal medicine expert and CEO of Amagashie Herbal Centre has called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider establishing a Ministry for Herbal Medicine to regulate and promote the industry.

According to him, the herbal medicine sector plays a critical role in Ghana’s healthcare system, yet it lacks the necessary government support and oversight to maximize its potential. He believes a dedicated ministry would help streamline operations, ensure quality control, and boost public confidence in herbal treatments.

Speaking at the Media and Entrepreneurship Prominence Awards in Kumasi, where he was honored as the Best Innovation Herbal Clinic of the Year 2024/25, Apostle Dr. Amagashie expressed his willingness to serve as Ghana’s first-ever Minister for Herbal Medicine if given the opportunity.

“If I am appointed as the Minister for Herbal Medicine, I will work tirelessly to ensure that herbal medicine is given the recognition and support it deserves. I will also establish a Herbal Nursing Training College to enhance professionalism in the field and equip practitioners with the right skills to provide quality healthcare,” he stated.

The Case for a Herbal Medicine Ministry

Apostle Dr. Amagashie highlighted the growing global recognition of herbal medicine and emphasized that Ghana, with its rich history of traditional healing, should take the lead in formalizing the sector.

He outlined key initiatives a Herbal Medicine Ministry could implement, including:
✔ Stronger regulation and certification of herbal products to eliminate substandard medicines.
✔ Government support for herbal research and development to enhance the industry.
✔ Integration of herbal medicine into mainstream healthcare to complement orthodox medicine.
✔ Training institutions and professional licensing to standardize the practice.

A Bold Vision for Herbal Medicine in Ghana

Apostle Dr. Amagashie’s advocacy comes at a time when many Ghanaians rely on herbal remedies for their health needs. He believes the formalization and regulation of the sector will create employment opportunities, improve public health, and contribute to Ghana’s economy through local and international trade in herbal products.

His call to John Mahama and future governments is a bold step towards positioning herbal medicine as a key pillar of Ghana’s healthcare system. Whether or not a ministry will be created, his vision for a structured, professional, and government-supported herbal industry is one that continues to gain attention.
