Apostle Dr. Amagashi Challenges Clergy: ‘Many Pastors Lack Deep Understanding of the Bible’ — Clarifies Adam and Eve’s Fruit Was Not an Apple

Apostle Dr. Samuel Amagashi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Amagashi Herbal and Spiritual Centre, has sparked renewed theological debate after challenging Christian leaders to seek deeper understanding of the Scriptures, particularly concerning the biblical story of Adam and Eve and the “fruit” they ate in the Garden of Eden.

In a powerful and enlightening sermon, the herbal practitioner and preacher argued that one of the greatest misconceptions in Christian teaching is the long-held belief that the forbidden fruit eaten by Adam and Eve was an apple. He maintained that this interpretation lacks scriptural support and reveals a surface-level understanding of the Word of God. “Many pastors today are teaching what they don’t truly understand. The Bible never said the fruit was an apple. That story is a mystery, and without spiritual revelation, people will continue to mislead their congregations,” Apostle Dr. Amagashi boldly declared.

According to him, the account in Genesis is written in a figurative and symbolic language that requires divine interpretation rather than literal reasoning. He explained that the “fruit” Adam and Eve ate represents sexual knowledge or intimacy, not a physical apple as traditionally taught. “The fruit was not a normal apple — it was a proverbial statement representing sexual intercourse between Adam and Eve. After the act, the Bible says their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked. That means their awareness changed. It was not about food but about the awakening of sexual knowledge,” he explained.

Apostle Dr. Amagashi stated that the church must stop avoiding sensitive topics such as sexuality and human relationships, noting that these are integral to understanding the divine plan of creation. He emphasized that God created sex as a holy and sacred union between man and woman, and that it only became sinful when it was done outside divine instruction.

He further lamented that the lack of spiritual depth among some pastors has caused widespread confusion and misinterpretation of key biblical passages. “Some pastors only repeat what they have heard or read without asking God for revelation. The Bible is full of mysteries. If we depend solely on human understanding, we will always miss the truth,” he said.

The preacher and herbal expert called on the clergy to humble themselves and seek divine enlightenment rather than rely solely on theological education. “Spiritual wisdom is not gained by academic study alone. You can attend Bible school and still not understand the mysteries of the Word. It takes revelation, prayer, and the Holy Spirit to interpret Scripture rightly,” he added.

Touching further on the Adam and Eve story, Apostle Dr. Amagashi noted that their realization of nakedness after eating the fruit symbolized the awakening of human consciousness and sexuality. “The moment they ate the fruit, they covered themselves because their spiritual purity had been replaced by physical awareness. That was the real fall of man — the corruption of innocence,” he revealed.

He urged pastors and teachers of the Word to teach their congregations the truth without fear, adding that many Christians continue to live in ignorance because their leaders are afraid to address controversial or sensitive subjects. “We cannot keep the church in darkness because of fear or tradition. The truth must be told, no matter how uncomfortable it is,” he emphasized.

Apostle Dr. Amagashi also encouraged men to take care of their health, especially their reproductive well-being, which he described as a symbol of divine strength and creation power. “Manhood is not just a body part; it represents strength, purpose, and continuity. God designed it as part of His creative plan. Men must therefore live healthy and balanced lives,” he said.

His remarks have generated a mix of admiration and debate among theologians, pastors, and Christian scholars. While some view his interpretation as controversial, others see it as a courageous attempt to bring deeper understanding to one of the most discussed passages in the Bible.

He concluded his message with a call for unity, truth, and intellectual honesty in the church. “The Bible is not a storybook — it is a book of spiritual codes. Until pastors and Christians begin to read it with revelation, the mysteries of God will remain hidden. We need more spiritual understanding, not just religious traditions,” Apostle Dr. Amagashi affirmed.
