Ambitious Ladies Support Over 100 Widows with Food Items and Health Equipment in Asuofua
Ambitious Ladies, a women-led social advocacy group, has extended vital support to more than 100 widows in Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region through the donation of assorted food items and basic health equipment aimed at easing their living conditions.

The donation exercise, which took place over the weekend at the Asuofua Lorry Terminal, formed part of the group’s annual flagship humanitarian programme designed to support vulnerable persons within communities, particularly widows facing severe economic hardship.
Each beneficiary received a 5-kilogramme bag of rice, canned sardines, sunflower oil and other essential food items. In addition to the food supplies, the widows were presented with a sphygmomanometer, commonly known as a blood pressure monitor, to help promote regular health checks, especially among the elderly beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the President of Ambitious Ladies, Mrs Gifty Osei Adu-Gyimfi, stressed the urgent need for society to pay greater attention to the welfare of widows, many of whom struggle to survive after losing their spouses. She noted that a significant number of widows, particularly the aged and those who depended entirely on their husbands, are left in extremely difficult circumstances.
“Many widows are left without stable sources of income and access to basic healthcare after the death of their husbands. It is our collective responsibility as a society to show compassion and offer support to help them live dignified lives,” she said.

Mrs Adu-Gyimfi expressed satisfaction with the warm reception given to the donation and reaffirmed the commitment of Ambitious Ladies to initiatives that directly improve the lives of vulnerable people, especially widows and orphans. She assured that the group would continue to roll out similar interventions in other parts of Ghana and beyond as part of its social responsibility drive.
She also commended the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Osei Kwaku Michael, for his dedication to improving the welfare of underprivileged members of the community and for supporting the initiative through effective collaboration.
Hon. Osei Kwaku Michael, in his remarks, described the donation as a major relief to the beneficiaries, noting that the intervention would significantly ease the burden on the widows, particularly in the current economic climate.
Some of the beneficiaries could not hide their appreciation. Sixty-eight-year-old Madam Adwoa Anane described the food items and blood pressure monitor as “very dear” to them, adding that such support brings hope and comfort to widows who often feel neglected.
Another beneficiary, Madam Comfort, said the donation was a rare opportunity for her, given her financial constraints. “This is something I cannot easily afford. I am very grateful to be counted among the lucky ones today,” she said with visible joy.

The initiative once again highlighted the crucial role of community-based organisations in complementing government efforts to support vulnerable groups and promote social inclusion at the grassroots level.
