Ambitious Ladies Donate Food and Blood Pressure Monitors to Widows in Atwima Nwabiagya North

Ambitious Ladies, a women-focused social advocacy group, has donated assorted food items and blood pressure monitoring equipment to more than 100 widows at Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region, in an effort to ease their economic and health challenges.

The donation exercise, which took place over the weekend at the Asuofua Lorry Terminal, formed part of the group’s annual flagship outreach programme aimed at supporting vulnerable people within local communities, particularly widows who continue to face financial hardship following the loss of their spouses.

Each beneficiary received a five-kilogramme bag of rice, canned sardines, sunflower oil and other essential food items. In addition to the food supplies, the widows were presented with a sphygmomanometer, commonly known as a blood pressure monitor, to encourage regular health checks, especially among the elderly.

Addressing the gathering, the President of Ambitious Ladies, Mrs Gifty Osei Adu-Gyimfi, underscored the importance of extending consistent support to widows, many of whom are left without stable sources of income and access to basic healthcare. She observed that elderly widows and those who depended solely on their husbands often find themselves in extremely vulnerable situations.

“Many widows struggle to meet their daily needs after losing their husbands. As a society, we must show compassion and step in to support them, particularly those who have no one else to rely on,” she stated.

Mrs Adu-Gyimfi expressed satisfaction with the successful organisation of the exercise and the appreciation shown by the beneficiaries. She reaffirmed the commitment of Ambitious Ladies to programmes that improve the welfare of vulnerable groups, especially widows and orphans, and assured that similar interventions would be extended to other communities across Ghana and beyond.

She also commended the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Osei Kwaku Michael, for his dedication to improving the living conditions of underprivileged residents and for his support in ensuring the success of the initiative.

In his remarks, Hon. Osei Kwaku Michael described the donation as a significant relief to the widows, noting that the items would help reduce some of the hardships they face in their daily lives.

Some of the beneficiaries shared emotional testimonies. Sixty-eight-year-old Madam Adwoa Anane said the food items and blood pressure monitor were “very dear” to them, as they would help both their nutritional and health needs. Another beneficiary, Madam Comfort, expressed gratitude, saying the items were not easily accessible to her due to financial constraints and that she felt blessed to be among the recipients.

The outreach once again highlighted the critical role of community-based organisations in complementing government efforts to promote social protection and improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations at the grassroots level.
