Ambition 2025 Gains Momentum: MTN Ghana Commits to Sustainability and Connectivity

MTN Ghana has given fresh impetus to its Ambition 2025 strategy with a renewed focus on sustainability, digital growth and enhanced connectivity, following the announcement of a USD 245 million investment this year to strengthen its nationwide network, with the Ashanti Region standing out as a key beneficiary. The commitment was unveiled at a stakeholder media forum held at the Lancaster Hotel in Kumasi, where company executives engaged journalists on the next phase of MTN’s strategic vision.
Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, told participants that the Ambition 2025 framework, which was launched in 2021, is anchored in environmental, social and governance principles and is designed to create shared value for both the business and the communities it serves. She explained that MTN has deliberately positioned its operations to support environmental, social and developmental goals in the Ashanti Region while ensuring that its activities do not negatively affect local communities. She stressed that the company’s focus remains on being ethical in its dealings, expanding coverage, enhancing capacity, improving service quality and building a strong, future-ready business.
The new USD 245 million investment in 2025 forms part of MTN’s larger USD 1 billion five-year commitment to Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. Already, USD 240 million has been earmarked for network expansion in 2025 alone, a sign of the company’s determination to bridge digital gaps and improve customer experience. MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, earlier this year reaffirmed this commitment, expressing confidence in the country’s digital economy and urging private sector stakeholders to play their part in building a robust digital ecosystem.
Backed by a strong financial position, MTN Ghana has the resources to deliver on its ambitions. In 2024, the company recorded a 26.3 percent year-on-year profit growth, posting GH₵5.028 billion in profit. This financial strength gives MTN the capacity to sustain heavy capital investments while creating value for its shareholders and contributing to national development.
The Kumasi stakeholder forum highlighted the central role of the Ashanti Region in MTN’s long-term strategy, as the company seeks to expand access to reliable digital services and promote inclusive growth. Media practitioners who attended the event described MTN’s commitments as both refreshing and transformative. News Editor Michael Ofosu-Afriyie remarked that the combination of significant capital injection, ESG-driven operations and customer-focused strategies shows that MTN is positioning itself not only as a telecom operator but also as a development partner in Ghana’s broader digital journey.
With Ambition 2025 gathering momentum, MTN Ghana is signaling its readiness to consolidate its market leadership while actively supporting Ghana’s development agenda. By weaving sustainability into its operations and making bold financial commitments to network growth, the company is working towards delivering a connected, inclusive and sustainable digital future for the country.
