The Amansie West District Assembly has, for the second consecutive time, failed to elect a presiding member, leaving the assembly in a state of deadlock and raising concerns about the continuity of its operations.

In the first round of voting, Monica Osei Kyei secured 23 votes, while Kusi Dickson obtained 13 votes, with one ballot rejected. However, neither candidate achieved the required two-thirds majority, necessitating a second round of voting. In the subsequent round, both candidates received an equal number of 18 votes each out of the 36 total votes cast, resulting in yet another stalemate.

Mr. Stephen Bertino, representing the Electoral Commission (EC), announced that the election has been rescheduled and will be reconvened within ten days to break the deadlock.

Speaking to the media, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Prince Manu Morris, expressed disappointment over the assembly’s inability to elect a presiding member. He warned that the delay could affect the district’s developmental agenda and appealed to assembly members to set aside political differences in favor of the community’s progress.

Several assembly members have voiced concern over the recurring impasse but remain optimistic that the upcoming vote will produce a decisive outcome and ensure effective leadership for the assembly.
