Amansie West Assembly Partners Small-Scale Miners to Reshape Dominase–Abore Deplorable Road

The Amansie West District Assembly has joined forces with members of the Small-Scale Miners Association in the Dominase Electoral Area to undertake a major reshaping of the deplorable road network linking Dominase to Abore in the Ashanti Region.
The collaborative initiative, fully sponsored by local small-scale miners, aims to improve accessibility and ease transportation challenges faced by residents, farmers, and traders along the route. The project is seen as a significant boost to local development and a clear demonstration of how private stakeholders can complement government efforts in addressing pressing community needs.

Speaking on behalf of his fellow miners, Mr. Kofi Amankwah expressed their collective commitment to contributing positively to the community that hosts their operations. He noted that their decision to finance the road rehabilitation was inspired by a shared sense of responsibility to ensure that the benefits of mining extend beyond economic gains to tangible infrastructural development.
“This collaboration reflects our proactive approach to development and the importance of partnerships in improving infrastructure. As small-scale miners, we recognize that our operations should also benefit the communities around us. Supporting this road reshaping is one of the many ways we can give back to society,” Mr. Amankwah stated.

The Assembly Member for Dominase Electoral Area, Hon. Appiah Daniel, commended the miners for their support and lauded the project as a model for self-initiated development efforts. He emphasized that the community must not always wait for government intervention but should rather identify and implement practical solutions to address local challenges.

“I am particularly delighted to see this level of collaboration between the Assembly and the small-scale miners. It shows that when we unite as a community, we can achieve meaningful progress without relying heavily on the Assembly or central government,” Hon. Appiah Daniel remarked.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West, Hon. Prince Manu Morris, who inspected the ongoing reshaping works, applauded the miners for their initiative and urged other groups and private entities to emulate their example. He stressed that government alone cannot meet all the developmental needs of the people, hence the need for strong partnerships between local authorities, private sector actors, and community stakeholders.

“This initiative showcases the power of collaboration in community development. The central government cannot do it all alone. We need more of such partnerships to accelerate progress and improve living standards in our district,” the DCE emphasized.
Residents along the Dominase–Abore stretch have also expressed joy and gratitude for the intervention, describing it as timely and life-changing. Many farmers who transport their produce to nearby markets said the poor road condition had long been a major setback, affecting their livelihoods and inflating transportation costs.

The reshaping exercise, which involves grading, leveling, and compacting the road surface, is expected to be completed soon, providing a smoother and safer route for commuters and enhancing economic activities within the area.

The successful partnership between the Amansie West District Assembly and the small-scale miners stands as a shining example of community-driven development, reinforcing the message that shared responsibility and collaboration are key to sustainable progress.
