Hon. Peter Awere has been elected as the new Presiding Member for the Amansie South District Assembly after securing a resounding victory in a closely watched election held at the Assembly’s meeting hall.

 

The election, which attracted keen interest among Assembly Members and stakeholders, proceeded through two rounds of voting. In the first round, Hon. Awere polled 22 votes, while his contender, Hon. Owusu Emmanuel, obtained 15 votes. However, as neither candidate attained the required majority to be declared winner, a second round was conducted in line with the Assembly’s electoral procedures.

In the decisive second round, Hon. Peter Awere emerged victorious with an overwhelming 35 votes, representing approximately 94.6 percent of the total votes cast. His opponent, Hon. Owusu Emmanuel, secured 2 votes, representing about 5.4 percent, thereby sealing Hon. Awere’s confirmation as Presiding Member of the Assembly.

The outcome was met with applause from members of the Assembly, marking a significant moment for local governance and leadership within the district.

Speaking to the media shortly after the declaration, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Benjamin Marfo, commended the Assembly Members for their participation and unity during the electoral process. He expressed optimism about the collaboration between his office and the newly elected Presiding Member, emphasizing that both would work closely to accelerate development across the Amansie South District.

Hon. Peter Awere, in his acceptance remarks, expressed deep appreciation to the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to serve with integrity, inclusiveness, and dedication, adding that he would work diligently with all stakeholders to promote development and strengthen unity within the Assembly.

He further assured that his leadership would prioritize consensus-building and cooperation in order to advance the district’s developmental agenda.

In a show of sportsmanship and unity, Hon. Owusu Emmanuel congratulated Hon. Peter Awere on his victory and pledged his support towards the success of the Assembly. His gesture was widely praised as a demonstration of democratic maturity and commitment to collective progress.

The outgoing Presiding Member, Hon. Samuel Amponsah, also addressed the Assembly, urging Members to give their full support to the newly elected Presiding Member. He encouraged them to remain united and committed to the development of the district, emphasizing that effective leadership requires collaboration and shared responsibility.
