In a landmark achievement for the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, 27 communities have been connected to the national electricity grid, igniting celebrations among residents who have long awaited this development.
The electrification project, championed by the Member of Parliament for the Manso Adubia Constituency, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, and supported by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has brought renewed hope for economic growth and improved living standards in the district.
Communities Benefitting from the Initiative
The newly connected communities include Akyekyerekrom, Groso, Manukro, Yaw Kasa, and Brikyakrom, among others. The project is part of the government’s broader agenda to improve infrastructure in rural areas and bridge the development gap between urban and rural Ghana.
Residents have expressed optimism that the electrification initiative will transform key sectors such as education, healthcare, and local businesses, which have long struggled due to the lack of electricity.
Joy and Gratitude from Residents
Speaking to journalists, residents could not hide their joy. “For years, we have relied on kerosene lamps and generators, which are expensive and unreliable. Today, we can finally say goodbye to those challenges. This development will change our lives forever,” said Mr. Kwadwo Antwi, a farmer in Yaw Kasa.
Madam Akosua Konadu, a shop owner in Akyekyerekrom, said, “Electricity will allow us to operate for longer hours and preserve perishable goods. Our businesses will thrive, and our children can now study under proper lighting.”
The residents commended Hon. Frimpong Addo and the government for delivering on their promise to bring light to the district.
Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo Highlights the Project’s Impact
Addressing a durbar to officially inaugurate the project, Hon. Frimpong Addo emphasized the significance of the electrification program for rural development. He described the project as a catalyst for progress in Amansie South and encouraged residents to embrace the opportunities it presents.
“This is a significant step towards improving the lives of our people. With electricity, we can expect better healthcare delivery, enhanced education, and thriving businesses. This project is not just about lights; it’s about empowering our communities to achieve their full potential,” Hon. Frimpong Addo remarked.
He further assured constituents of his commitment to collaborating with the government to address other developmental challenges in the district.
Government’s Commitment to Universal Electricity Access
The connection of these 27 communities to the national grid aligns with the government’s agenda to achieve universal electricity access by 2025. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been a strong advocate for rural development, played a crucial role in securing funding and technical support for the project.
In a statement, the Ministry of Energy highlighted the importance of such initiatives in enhancing rural livelihoods and reducing poverty. “Electricity is a key driver of development. By connecting underserved areas to the grid, we are creating opportunities for growth and improving the standard of living in rural Ghana,” the statement read.

The electrification project marks a turning point for the Amansie South District, which has long been one of the most deprived areas in the region. With electricity now available, local businesses can expand, schools can integrate digital tools into learning, and healthcare facilities can offer better services.
