The Amansie South District Assembly held its second Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to review and discuss the district’s Action Plan and Budget for the 2024 fiscal year. This meeting, an essential part of the district’s commitment to local governance and development, aimed to ensure that resources are strategically allocated to meet the district’s development goals and address the needs of its residents.
The meeting brought together Assembly members, departmental heads, and unit heads, all of whom played a crucial role in scrutinizing the 2024 Action Plan and Budget. The primary goal was to refine these plans in alignment with the Assembly’s broader agenda, ensuring that the district’s development objectives are met efficiently.
During the session, attendees had ample opportunity to critically evaluate the proposed Action Plan and budgetary allocations. This collaborative approach allowed for a thorough review, with particular emphasis placed on infrastructure development and staff capacity building—two key priorities for the Assembly in the coming year.
The budget presentation was a central focus of the meeting, highlighting the Assembly’s financial planning for the upcoming year. Discussions revolved around income and expenditures, detailing the internally generated funds, grants, and other revenue sources that will support the district’s developmental projects. Ensuring that these financial resources are utilized effectively is seen as crucial for advancing the district’s infrastructure and services.
In a media interview following the meeting, Hon. Clement Opoku Gyamfi, the District Chief Executive, reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to timely project completion and effective implementation of the 2024 Action Plan. “We are committed to ensuring that every project outlined in our plan is completed on schedule and executed with the highest level of efficiency,” he emphasized, underscoring the Assembly’s focus on delivering tangible results for the district.
Hon. Gyamfi also addressed concerns about security within the district, noting that proactive measures are being put in place to mitigate any potential criminal activities. He assured residents that maintaining peace and security is a top priority for the Assembly, as it is essential for creating a stable environment conducive to development.
On his part Hon. Kwame Amponsah prisiding member Amansie South District Assembly asserted that
Chieftaincy disputes in the Amansie South District have become a significant obstacle to the progress of critical developmental projects, according to the Presiding Member of the District Assembly, Hon. Kwame Amponsah. He expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflicts, which often lead to tensions and divisions within communities, thereby stalling efforts to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services in the district.
Hon. Kwame Amponsah highlighted that the presence of multiple chiefs in some towns is complicating the Assembly’s ability to effectively engage with traditional leaders and gather their input on developmental projects. This situation, he noted, makes it difficult to coordinate and implement initiatives that would benefit the entire community.
He made an urgent appeal to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to intervene and help resolve these disputes among the traditional leaders. According to Hon. Amponsah, a swift and peaceful resolution of these conflicts is crucial for speeding up development in the district.
Hon. Kwame Amponsah also called on the residents of the district to collaborate effectively with the Assembly. He emphasized that such cooperation is essential to promoting development across the various electoral areas, ensuring that the district can move forward despite the challenges posed by the chieftaincy disputes.
