Amansie South DCE Leads National Sanitation Day Clean-Up Exercise at Datano

In response to the President’s call for collective action under the National Sanitation Day initiative, the Amansie South District Assembly, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Honourable Benjamin Marfo, has spearheaded a comprehensive clean-up exercise at Datano, the district’s commercial hub.

The exercise, held early Tuesday morning, saw the active participation of the District Co-ordinating Director, senior officers, and staff of the District Assembly. The move formed part of a renewed effort by the Assembly to promote environmental cleanliness, prevent sanitation-related diseases, and inculcate a strong sense of hygiene consciousness among residents.

The team, armed with shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, and other sanitation tools, descended on key areas in Datano including market centres, streets, and drainage systems, desilting gutters, clearing refuse, and removing overgrown weeds that had overtaken parts of the town.

Honourable Kwame Amponsah, the Assembly Member for the area and Presiding Member of the Assembly, played a pivotal role by mobilizing community members to support the District team. He commended the residents for turning out in their numbers and displaying strong communal spirit and patriotism.

“We must take responsibility for our own environment. Cleanliness is not just a one-day event; it must become a way of life. Today’s exercise is a powerful reminder that together we can keep our communities clean and safe,” Hon. Amponsah said.

DCE Hon. Benjamin Marfo in his address emphasized that sanitation remained a top priority for the Assembly and pledged continued support for clean-up campaigns across the district. He appealed to residents to maintain the momentum by adopting regular communal labour and proper waste disposal habits.

“Our President has made it clear that sanitation is a national concern, and here in Amansie South, we are taking that directive seriously. The health of our people is non-negotiable. Clean surroundings prevent disease and promote development,” Hon. Marfo stated.

He also announced that the Assembly will soon roll out a sensitization programme targeting schools and local markets to deepen public education on hygiene and environmental stewardship.

Residents of Datano expressed appreciation for the Assembly’s presence and efforts, calling on authorities to provide regular refuse collection services and ensure enforcement of sanitation by-laws to deter indiscriminate dumping of waste.

The successful exercise at Datano marks one of many planned across the district as Amansie South intensifies its commitment to ensuring a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for all.
