In a bid to combat unemployment and enhance the economic independence of young people in the Offinso South Constituency, Mr. Richard Agyare, widely known as Akwasi Poku, and his wife, Mercy Dombo, are set to organize a comprehensive two-day job training program. The event will take place on December 3 and 4, 2024, at the Offinso South Municipal Assembly premises.
The program is designed to provide participants with practical skills in various trades to create sustainable job opportunities and promote self-reliance. The training areas include:
1. Soap, shampoo, and liquid soap making
2. Catfish, snail, and mushroom rearing
3. Fertilizer and weedicide manufacturing
4. Yoghurt and Ada drink preparation
5. Meat pie, chips, and bread making
Speaking to the media ahead of the event, Mr. Akwasi Poku highlighted the importance of equipping the youth with employable skills:
“This program is part of my vision to empower the youth with practical skills that can lead to self-employment. By acquiring these skills, participants can start their own businesses and improve their livelihoods, which will, in turn, contribute to the development of the entire constituency.”
In addition to this initiative, Mr. Akwasi Poku and his wife have undertaken several community development projects aimed at improving the living conditions of the people of Offinso South. These include:
Construction of a toilet facility at Agyeimpra: To improve sanitation in the area.
Borehole construction at Agyeimpra: Providing clean and safe drinking water.
Borehole repair at Sofo Isaac’s area: Ensuring access to potable water for residents.
Speaking further on these projects, Mr. Akwasi Poku said:
“Our goal is to address the fundamental needs of the people in Offinso South while empowering them to build better futures for themselves. These projects and initiatives are just the beginning of our efforts to uplift the community and make a lasting impact.”
The two-day training program is open to all interested youth in the constituency and promises to be a platform for learning, interaction, and skill development. Participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge that can lead to economic independence and sustainable livelihoods.
