Akatakyieso Chief Cautions Youth Footballers to Be Respectful and Refrain from Drug Abuse

The Chief of Akatakyieso in the Amansie Central District, Nana Nuako Nuamah II, has issued a passionate appeal to Ghanaian youth—particularly aspiring footballers—to uphold discipline, show respect, and stay away from drug abuse, warning that such destructive habits could derail their future ambitions.

Speaking at the climax of the 2025 Akatakyieso Homecoming Football Competition, the traditional ruler expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of substance abuse among young people. The event, sponsored by renowned businessman and philanthropist Mr. Michael Owusu, popularly known as Akwasi Macho, brought together youth, elders, and natives in a celebration of talent, unity, and community development.

“Substance abuse is a dangerous path that leads to destruction,” Nana Nuamah II stated. “Our youth, especially those involved in football and other sports, must protect their talents by staying away from drugs. These bad habits not only ruin lives but rob our communities and the nation of bright future leaders and athletes.”

He emphasized the need for the youth to remain focused, disciplined, and respectful. According to him, the choices young people make today determine the trajectory of their future careers and overall well-being.

The chief also used the occasion to appeal to the government for urgent improvements in the educational infrastructure of Akatakyieso. He noted that the increasing number of school-going children is straining existing facilities and hampering the quality of teaching and learning.

“Our schools are overwhelmed,” he lamented. “We need additional classroom blocks and adequate teaching materials to meet the growing demand and to ensure every child in Akatakyieso gets access to quality education.”

The 2025 Akatakyieso Homecoming Football Competition served not only as a platform for showcasing football talent but also as a forum for promoting community pride and raising awareness on key social issues.
