The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has projected that the next phase of growth in the telecommunications industry will be driven not only by connectivity but more importantly by Artificial Intelligence (AI), coding, and the ingenuity of young innovators.

Speaking in a radio interview in Accra, Mr. Blewett explained that while telecom networks provide the backbone for communication and development, the true opportunities lie in the digital platforms and solutions that emerge from them. He noted that platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Uber could never have existed without strong networks, stressing that Ghana’s telecom future depends on creating similar transformative innovations. “The real growth in telecoms won’t just come from providing connectivity. It will come from the platforms, solutions and innovations built on top of those networks. Think about it—Facebook, WhatsApp and Uber, none of these would exist without the network. That’s where the future lies,” he emphasized.
According to him, AI and coding are not just industry buzzwords but are set to become the engines of growth for the sector. He underlined the crucial role that telecommunications will continue to play in Ghana’s economic and social transformation by enabling other industries to innovate, expand, and thrive.
“The telecom sector will remain central to economic and social transformation because we provide the backbone that allows all other sectors to innovate and thrive,” Mr. Blewett stated.
He reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to its Ambition 2025 strategy, which is anchored on digital platforms, fintech growth, and inclusive development. He stressed that the company’s vision extends beyond financial profit to creating lasting impact for people, businesses, and communities in Ghana.

“At MTN, we’re not just chasing profits, we are chasing impact. Our goal is to create opportunities, to enable young people, businesses, and communities to thrive in a digital economy,” he added.
Mr. Blewett’s remarks come at a time when Ghana’s digital economy is expanding rapidly, with increasing demand for mobile financial services, e-commerce, and digital content. Industry observers note that telecom operators such as MTN are uniquely positioned to harness AI-driven technologies to drive efficiency, innovation, and inclusive growth across multiple sectors.
