Ahwerewam Tragedy: 20-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Teen Girl to Death Over Insult
The peaceful farming community of Ahwerewam, near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region, has been thrown into a state of shock and mourning following the tragic death of an 18-year-old girl, Maame Akua, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her friend, 20-year-old Maame Adwoa, during a heated altercation.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, November 10, 2025, has left residents speechless, with many wondering what could have triggered such a violent confrontation between the two young women who were reportedly known to each other in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation began after Maame Akua confronted Maame Adwoa over a derogatory remark she had allegedly made about her mother. The exchange, which initially started as a verbal dispute, quickly escalated into a physical fight. In the heat of the argument, Maame Adwoa reportedly slapped Maame Akua before reaching into her handbag for a pair of scissors, which she allegedly used to stab the deceased in the neck.
The young girl is said to have collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely. Efforts by bystanders to rush her to a nearby health facility proved futile, as she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the Bechem Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
Police officers from the Mankranso District Command swiftly moved in to arrest the suspect, who is currently in custody assisting with investigations. The law enforcement authorities have commenced a full-scale investigation into the circumstances leading to the fatal stabbing, including the possible motive and prior relationship between the two.
Speaking to some distraught residents, they described the incident as “unimaginable” and called for calm as the police pursue justice for the deceased. Others, however, hinted that there may be more to the story than meets the eye, suggesting that unresolved tension between the two young women might have contributed to the deadly confrontation.
