Ahafo Ano South West DCE Hon. Abubakari Sediq Invests GH₵1 Million in Future Leaders with 40 Scholarships to Brilliant but Needy Students

In a major step toward empowering the youth through education, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakari Sediq, has invested GH₵1 million in a scholarship initiative to support 40 brilliant but needy tertiary students from communities across the district.
The scholarship programme, which covers both tuition and stipends, seeks to reduce the financial burden on underprivileged students and ensure that no academically gifted youth in the district is left behind due to financial hardship. The beneficiaries are enrolled in various public tertiary institutions across Ghana, studying diverse programmes including science, engineering, education, and the humanities.
The official presentation ceremony took place at the Mankranso District Assembly Hall, held under the theme “From Classroom to Communities: Investing in Tomorrow’s Leaders.” The event drew together parents, traditional leaders, educationists, assembly members, and community stakeholders, all of whom praised Hon. Abubakari Sediq for his visionary leadership and unflinching dedication to education and human capital development.
In his keynote address, Hon. Sediq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality education as a cornerstone for sustainable development in the Ahafo Ano South West District. He emphasized that education remains the most effective tool for poverty eradication, social mobility, and rural transformation.
“This initiative is a core part of the NDC government’s effort to promote rural Community Development Programmes (CDP), which align with our vision of adding value to the lives of people in the Ahafo Ano South West District,” Hon. Sediq stated. “We believe that when we empower people from our rural communities through education, we cultivate the knowledge and expertise needed to drive our local economy forward.”
He further encouraged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by dedicating themselves to academic excellence. “Go, learn, and come back to develop Ahafo Ano South West. The future of this district rests on your shoulders,” he urged.
Hon. Sediq noted that the scholarship initiative forms part of a broader strategy by the Assembly to invest in human capital as the foundation for community-led development. He stressed that supporting the youth to acquire higher education would, in the long run, contribute to the district’s economic growth, leadership development, and social transformation.
The DCE’s gesture was met with overwhelming appreciation from parents, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders who attended the event. They commended him for his proactive leadership and practical commitment to improving the lives of the people through education. Many described the initiative as timely, particularly at a period when rising costs of tertiary education continue to burden rural families.
Some of the beneficiaries, visibly moved by the gesture, expressed deep gratitude to Hon. Sediq and the District Assembly for the support. They pledged to study hard and return to contribute meaningfully to the district’s development after completing their education.
Officials from the District Assembly revealed that the scholarship initiative will be institutionalized as an annual programme to ensure continuity and to provide sustained educational support for brilliant but needy students within the district.

Through this GH₵1 million investment, Hon. Abubakari Sediq has once again demonstrated that education is not only a personal right but a collective responsibility. His vision to build an enlightened and empowered generation underscores his belief that the future of Ahafo Ano South West lies in the potential of its young people — a generation he continues to nurture through deliberate, inclusive, and sustainable educational interventions.
