Ahafo Ano South East DCE and MP Cut Sod for Major Water Infrastructure Project
The Ahafo Ano South East District Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the area, has officially commenced a major water infrastructure project aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water for residents in ten beneficiary communities across the district.
The project was inaugurated with a sod-cutting ceremony led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ibrahim Yamba Nelson, and the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Yakubu Mohammed. The ceremony was witnessed by traditional authorities (Nananom), assembly members, community leaders and residents, who gathered to mark the beginning of what has been described as a transformative intervention in rural water supply.

The ambitious initiative involves the construction of five mechanised boreholes and five pump-operated boreholes to serve communities including Adugyama, Sabronum, Biemso No. 2, Abesewa, Ogyam, Asempanaye, Adense-Oforikrom, Awhirewam Adankuso, Pokuase Kwame Nantwie Akura and Amokrom. The project is expected to be completed within a stipulated period of two months.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Hon. Ibrahim Yamba Nelson stressed that the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving basic amenities and living standards, particularly in rural communities. He noted that access to potable water remains a critical development need and assured residents that the Assembly would closely monitor the project to ensure timely and quality delivery.

“This project is not only about water but also about improving public health and promoting socio-economic development in our communities,” the DCE stated. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their support and cooperation, emphasizing that the successful completion of the project would significantly reduce water-related challenges in the district.
In his remarks, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed described the sod-cutting as a symbolic but important step that officially signals the commencement of work. He noted that the project would greatly enhance water accessibility and quality for residents, particularly women and children who often bear the burden of searching for water.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to lobbying for more development projects for the district, assuring constituents that Ahafo Ano South East would witness substantial physical and social infrastructure growth in the coming years through effective collaboration with the District Assembly and central government.

As part of the event, the DCE also cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern No. 2 Kindergarten (KG) block at Nimfourkrom, underscoring the Assembly’s broader focus on improving educational infrastructure alongside water and sanitation services.

The ceremony served as a unifying moment for government officials, traditional leaders and community members, all working together toward enhanced water service delivery and overall development in the Ahafo Ano South East District.
