Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly Disburses DACF Support Items to Empower Persons with Disabilities

The Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has disbursed essential items and financial assistance to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality as part of efforts to improve their socio-economic livelihoods through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

The intervention forms part of government’s social protection and inclusive development agenda aimed at empowering PWDs economically, reducing dependency, and discouraging street begging by supporting beneficiaries to engage in sustainable income-generating activities.

At a brief ceremony held to present the items, beneficiaries received a wide range of equipment tailored to their individual needs and trades. These included chest freezers, industrial sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, mist blowers, hairdressing equipment and wheelchairs. The Assembly also supported the payment of medical bills and students’ school fees, while some beneficiaries were given cash assistance to help expand or stabilize their economic ventures.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano North, Hon. Kwasi Adusei, urged them to make effective and productive use of the items to improve their standard of living. He cautioned against abandoning the equipment and returning to street begging, stressing that the support was intended to promote self-reliance, dignity and economic independence among persons with disabilities.

Hon. Kwasi Adusei further expressed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for his continued commitment to social welfare and inclusive development, noting that government policies continue to make meaningful impacts on vulnerable groups across the country.

Some of the beneficiary persons with disabilities, speaking on behalf of the group, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Assembly and the government for the timely support. They pledged to make good use of the items and financial assistance to serve their intended purposes and improve their livelihoods.

On his part, the Head of the Department of Social Welfare at the Assembly, Mr. Frimpong Isaac, assured the beneficiaries that his department would closely monitor the use of the distributed items to ensure they are put to their intended purposes. He explained that regular follow-ups would be conducted to assess progress and provide guidance where necessary to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

The disbursement underscores the Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly’s commitment to inclusive governance and its determination to ensure that persons with disabilities are empowered to contribute meaningfully to local economic development.
