Agriculture/Rural Development wants unpopular Shipment pesticides banned

In furtherance of the banning of Neonicatinaid pesticides by the European Union and it’s unpopular shipment from countries within the Union to poorer countries including Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and rural Development hereby notify stakeholders of the immediate ban of the product in Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Engr. Tunde Bello, Director, Farm Inputs Support Service Department, similarly all agrochemical with chlorpyrifas active active ingredients and variant chlorpyrofas active ingredients and variants chloroyrifas-meghyl including, Blocade, Cortilan ,OleaRel, Pyrinex, and Reldan 22 are amongst banned products.
The statement indicated that, reports have revieved that these products have been banned for use in farms in Europe because of the harmful effect on Humans, Animals, beneficial insects and the Environment.
The statement consequently requested to stop the distribution and marketing of the aforementioned products and also urge to assist the Ministry in any way possible towards curbing the use of these products in the country for the safety of Nigerians and ecosystem.
Its stated that, the Ministry will also embark on a sensitisation exercise to highlight the consequences of using banned pesticides. END
