Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025: Adwoa Wiafe Champions Private Sector Role in Climate Action

Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, will deliver the keynote address at the Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 (Virtual Edition), an event that seeks to place communication at the heart of Africa’s climate resilience agenda. The summit, themed “Towards a Climate Resilient Africa through Strategic Communication”, precedes the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) in Brazil this November.
Leading the Conversation on Sustainability
Adwoa Wiafe, a recognized leader in corporate sustainability, has been instrumental in advancing MTN Ghana’s vision of integrating environmental responsibility with business innovation. Under her leadership, MTN has pursued sustainability strategies anchored on:
Reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy adoption
Driving inclusive community development and digital inclusion
Strengthening ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability
Her keynote is expected to emphasize how the private sector can play a pivotal role in Africa’s climate journey by deploying strategic communication to build trust, influence policies, and mobilize communities for climate action.
Speaking ahead of the summit, Wiafe stressed: “Climate communication is more than just awareness, it is about mobilizing action. At MTN Ghana, we are committed to telling Africa’s climate story in a way that empowers people, protects the environment, and secures a sustainable future for generations to come.”
Transforming Communication into Action
The Africa Climate Communication Summit will convene storytellers, journalists, communication specialists, policymakers, and creative artists from across Africa and beyond, including participants from Benin, Mali, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom.
Through panel discussions, keynote sessions, and experience sharing, participants will explore how storytelling and creative media can transform climate data and policy into accessible, relatable, and actionable narratives for ordinary citizens. The summit underscores the urgent need to close the gap between climate science, policymaking, and community realities by using innovative communication approaches.
Private Sector as a Climate Leader
Adwoa Wiafe’s contribution will spotlight the responsibility and influence of corporate organizations in advancing climate resilience. She will highlight MTN Ghana’s sustainability journey as an example of how private companies can balance business growth with environmental stewardship.
Her address will also challenge African businesses to go beyond compliance and adopt climate leadership roles—leveraging their platforms, networks, and resources to inspire behavioral change, innovation, and collaboration.
Africa’s Climate Story – From Victimhood to Leadership
The summit takes place at a critical juncture when Africa is facing mounting climate threats such as droughts, flooding, and food insecurity, yet also showcasing remarkable potential for innovation, renewable energy solutions, and community-driven resilience strategies.
Organizers emphasize that Africa’s climate story must be told boldly and inclusively, portraying the continent not as a passive victim of climate change but as a key driver of global resilience and sustainable development.
