Residents of Achinakrom, a community in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region, have taken a significant step toward enhanced sanitation and hygiene with the commissioning of a newly built self-modernized toilet facility. This initiative aims to eliminate open defecation and promote better hygiene practices in the community.
The absence of a proper toilet facility had long been a major challenge for residents, contributing to poor sanitation and public health risks. However, with the introduction of this modern facility, the community now has a cleaner and safer alternative.
Community Leaders Laud Initiative
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Assembly Member for Achinakrom Electoral Area, Hon. Sampson Kusi, expressed optimism that the facility would significantly improve sanitation in the area.
“The lack of a proper toilet facility has been a long-standing issue. With this modernized structure in place, we expect a major improvement in hygiene and overall public health in Achinakrom,” he stated.
On behalf of the Achinakrom Traditional Council, the Gyasehene, Nana Osei Nkrumah, emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure the facility serves its purpose for years to come.
“A project like this is only beneficial if we take good care of it. I urge every resident to use it responsibly and keep it clean at all times,” he advised.
Adding to the discussion, Unit Committee Chairman, Mr. John Boafo, highlighted the difficulties the community had faced due to the absence of a proper toilet facility.
“For years, our people had no choice but to resort to unhygienic practices. Today, we are witnessing a major transformation, and it is our duty to ensure this facility is well maintained and used properly,” he remarked.

The commissioning of this toilet facility marks a major milestone in Achinakrom’s sanitation improvement efforts. Residents are optimistic that this initiative will reduce health risks, promote cleanliness, and encourage better hygiene habits in the community.
With continued community support and responsible use, this project is expected to bring lasting relief to the people of Achinakrom and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.
