A/R: Manso-Datano residents cry for help over bad roads and electricity challenges
Residents of Manso-Datano, a farming community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, have made a passionate appeal to the government to urgently address poor road infrastructure and electricity challenges affecting daily life in the area.
According to community members, the persistent neglect of basic development needs continues to slow economic activities and worsen living conditions.
During a recent visit on Thursday, February 6, 2026, residents described their road network as extremely deplorable, noting that the area has no single tarred road.
They explained that roads become excessively dusty during the dry season and muddy and nearly impassable whenever it rains, making transportation of farm produce and movement within the community extremely difficult.

Some residents expressed frustration over what they described as years of neglect, saying the only time they see tarred roads is when they travel to Kumasi.
“We only experience good roads when we leave our own community,” one resident lamented, adding that the situation highlights the lack of development in Manso-Datano despite its contribution to food production.
Beyond the road issues, residents also raised concerns about electricity extension problems affecting several parts of the community.
They said many households remain without power, which has made daily life difficult and limited opportunities for small businesses and other economic ventures.
Community members revealed that in the absence of government support, some individuals have used personal resources to assist the area by helping to extend electricity to some homes and grading deteriorated roads to make them motorable.
Residents praised the initiative but emphasised that development responsibilities should not rest on one person alone.
Residents are therefore appealing to the government, the District Assembly, corporate bodies, and other well-meaning stakeholders to intervene by fixing roads and completing electricity extensions.
“We are doing our best as a community, but these problems are beyond individuals,” a resident said, stressing that sustainable development in Manso-Datano can only be achieved through collective and coordinated efforts.
