Officials of the much talked about No Business as Usual (NBU) Project in partnership with The Women’s Haven Hub Africa on the 8th of February 2020 organized an entrepreneurship and employability event for the entire student population of Kumasi Girls Senior High School in the Ashanti region.
In line with the former’s (NBU) Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship Program (YEEP) and the vision of the later (The Women’s Haven Africa), close to over 2,000 young senior high school girls of Kumasi Girls SHS who turned up for the event which was held at the assembly hall of the institution were offered knowledge by facilitators on how to become employable and start their own business after school.
Bringing into fruition the objective of the event, students were assisted to identify their abilities and were exposed to opportunities available to them after school at the various hubs specifically the NBU hub and the Women’s Haven Africa Hub.
They were again enlightened on the essence of charting the course of their lives right after SHS.
The day’s event was held under the theme; ”Life Begins after SHS”. Taking the form of speaker presentations and activity based exercises, speakers shared their life stories on how they decided to start their specific careers.
The activity based exercises helped participants to understand the various skills and talents they have and how they can harness and prepare for the future without wasting too much of their time while they are still young. Organizers took students through test to help them see whether they are more suited for employability or entrepreneurship.
Present during the event were Adwoa Fosua Owusu Ofori (Founder for Women’s Haven Hub Africa), Francisca Adarkwa Yiadom, Mrs. Deborah Appiah-Kyeremeh Sarpong (Curator, Global Shapers, Kumasi Hub), Training Coordinator for NBU Project Shaibu Fuseini, Youth Coach for NBU Roberta Attaa Aryeetey.
Addressing the media, Youth Coach for NBU Project Roberta Attaa Aryeetey disclosed that the event was prompted into motion after officials realized that most of the youth are faced with challenges which they can work on even before the completion of school if assisted.
She continued that a number of students after school want to engage themselves in a job but it appears that most of them have zero experience because they spent so much time home doing nothing when they could have used their time to get the experience they need for their jobs in the future.
She therefore advised students to manage their time well and add value to their lives.
