A/R : Father Murders 17-Year-Old Daughter in Fire After Wife Rejects Sex

A deeply disturbing incident has shaken the community of Asuoso Fenaso near Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, where a 50-year-old man is reported to have intentionally set a house on fire, killing his own 17-year-old daughter in the process, following a domestic conflict with his wife.

The tragic event occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 25, 2025, and has left the entire district in a state of shock and mourning. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the suspect became violently enraged after his wife refused to engage in sexual intercourse with him — a rejection that triggered an unthinkable act of vengeance.

According to reports, the suspect targeted a room where his wife and seven other individuals, including their teenage daughter, were sleeping. In a calculated act, he is said to have poured a flammable substance around the structure and ignited it, trapping the victims inside.

An eyewitness, speaking to OTEC News’ reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, recalled the horrifying moment.
“There were eight people in the room. Most of them woke up and managed to escape the flames, but the girl was asleep and couldn’t make it out. She was burnt to death. It was heartbreaking.”

The girl’s charred body was later retrieved from the burnt room by rescuers who arrived too late to save her. The incident has left residents in disbelief, especially considering the deliberate nature of the crime and the fact that it cost the life of the man’s own child.

Following the arson, the suspect reportedly attempted to end his life by ingesting a bottle of weedicide. However, he was quickly spotted and restrained by some youth in the community. The situation, however, turned violent when news of the daughter’s death spread through the town.

Consumed by grief and anger, some members of the community took justice into their own hands and lynched the suspect before the police could arrive at the scene.

Law enforcement officials from the Amansie Central District Police Command later transported both the body of the deceased daughter and the lifeless body of the suspect to the morgue.

The devastating incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for greater attention to domestic violence and mental health issues in rural Ghana. Community leaders, including chiefs and assembly members, have condemned the act and are calling on government agencies and NGOs to step in with interventions, particularly for family counseling, conflict resolution training, and support for survivors of domestic abuse.

“This was not just a family tragedy, it was a community disaster,” one local elder said. “We have lost a young life and seen our values tested in the most painful way.”

Meanwhile, the police have launched a formal investigation into the events leading up to the tragedy, as well as the circumstances surrounding the lynching of the suspect. They are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as the case unfolds.

This heartbreaking event adds to a growing list of domestic violence cases in the Ashanti Region, highlighting the urgent need for education, early intervention, and community support to prevent such horrifying outcomes in the future.
