The Sompahemaa Foundation is a philanthropic organization set up by Mrs. Irene Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
Mothers they say are the epitome of love. This year, May 8 was observed as Mother’s day to recognize mothers across the country. The Sompahemaa Foundation donated several items to many small groups of mothers within the Suame Municipality.
The items donated include food items, beverages, toiletries and many more. According to the founder of the Sompahemaa Foundation, she was inspired to take such a step in recognition of the efforts put forth by many women in their capacity as mothers and other capacities as guardians. She reiterated that not only people who had given birth are to be celebrated as mothers but any female who has one way or the other helped bring up a child is a mother and deserves to be celebrated.
She recounted how she was able to organize this with the help of assemblymen and other leaders in the Municipality. She acknowledged their efforts in her speech. There were several gatherings to ensure all women had a token. Mothers who were too feeble to locomote to the venue had a visit from Sompahemaa. She went into their homes to present them with gifts.
Speaking to the media, recipients of the gifts thanked Sompahemaa and her entourage for such a wonderful gesture and spoke words of blessing onto her life.
She also ceased the opportunity to visit a children’s ward during the course of the visitation.
