The General Secretary hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party Frederick Opare Ansah says he signifies the unity the party needs to ‘break the 8’.
The former Suhum member of Parliament has promised to build an all-inclusive New Patriotic Party in order to retain power in the next general election in 2024.
He was addressing his supporters and party faithfuls on Saturday, 26, at an event organized by Friends of Opare Ansah (FOOA) on a theme: “Restoring the grassroots Faith in Breaking the 8 and Beyond” at Takoradi in the Western Region.
He has therefore declared his intention to contest the general secretary position of the party if the party opens its nomination forms.
According to Opare Ansah, it is now time for the next leadership of the NPP party to bring all and sundry and aggrieved party members to the table in order to break the eight and sustain power beyond 2024.
The general secretary hopeful told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, a journalist that, the party needs someone who is a unifier and ready to mobilize people to work for the betterment of the party.
He further stated that party management is a communal labour and not a one man affair adding that a vote for him is a vote for unity, hence Opare Ansah is the answer he said.
According to him, if giving the nod, he will restore the lost faith the grassroots have in the current leadership of the party and equip party officers to ensure absolute victory.
The former Akwatia MP, Mercy Adu Gyemfi who is affectionately called Ama Sey on her part endorsed Frederick Opare Ansah intention to contest the general secretaryship position.
According to Ama Sey, Opare Ansah is a type of person who can help them achieve the break the eight mantra.
She described the former MP as, selfless, tolerance, unifier and someone who believes in political gender equality as far as politics is concerned.
“They said they do not like Ama Sey because she cannot speak English, we do not like her but I can bring people into the party fold so if I stand to be elected wouldn’t you vote for me? There were people who stood behind and said Ama Sey, we do not want her when I went to Parliament. If people would like me it has to do with our father Opare Ansah”.
Ama Sey urged the party delegates to take the general secretaryship elections into a different level by influencing their love ones to cast their vote in favour of Opare Ansah.
“Tell a friend to tell his or her boyfriend or girlfriend, I said you should vote for Opare Ansah when the time comes later in the year to elect a General Secretary for NPP”.
