Residents of Akyeremade in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region are appealing for urgent intervention following a severe power outage that has left the entire community in darkness for three consecutive days.
The blackout occurred after the community’s only electricity transformer suddenly caught fire, cutting off the supply of power and disrupting economic and social activities. Traders and small business owners, whose livelihoods depend heavily on electricity, report significant financial losses as operations remain halted.

“We are suffering. This is unbearable,” one resident lamented. “Our businesses are collapsing, and yet there has been no response. We urgently need a new transformer.”
Local residents have expressed growing frustration at what they describe as a lack of timely action by authorities. Since the transformer incident, no concrete measures appear to have been taken to restore electricity or provide a timeline for resolution.
Affected business operators, including food vendors, welders, hairdressers, and cold store owners, say the outage has severely impacted their incomes and, in some cases, led to spoilage of goods. The situation has raised concerns about the longer-term economic implications if the power supply is not restored promptly.
Community members have called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, and the local Assembly Member to intervene immediately. Residents are urging the authorities to expedite the provision of a replacement transformer and restore electricity to the area without further delay.
Describing the outage as both traumatic and disheartening, the community warns that the prolonged blackout could escalate economic losses and heighten public dissatisfaction. As the third day of darkness passes, hope for a swift resolution appears to be fading, intensifying calls for decisive action from government and relevant stakeholders.
