The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has formally presented its newly elected executives to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the historic Manhyia Palace during the revered Akwasidae Festival.

The visit, which took place on the sidelines of the culturally significant Akwasidae celebration, formed part of efforts by the Association to officially introduce its new leadership to the traditional authority and to strengthen collaboration between the media and the chieftaincy institution in the Ashanti Region.

Leading the delegation, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Kofi Adu Domfeh, expressed deep appreciation to the Asantehene for his consistent support to journalists and the broader media landscape. He particularly acknowledged Otumfuo’s instrumental role in facilitating access to land and space for the proposed Ashanti Press Centre, a transformative project expected to significantly improve the working conditions and professional development of journalists in the region.

Mr. Adu Domfeh noted that the intervention of the Asantehene demonstrates his unwavering commitment to the promotion of responsible journalism and the strengthening of democratic governance. He emphasised that the new leadership of the Association is fully committed to upholding the ethics of the profession, promoting press freedom, and enhancing unity within the media fraternity.

He further used the occasion to formally introduce the executives and respectfully sought the blessings, guidance, and counsel of the Asantehene to enable them to discharge their duties effectively and leave a lasting impact during their tenure.

The Akwasidae Festival, an important event on the Ashanti traditional calendar celebrated to honour ancestors and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom, provided a fitting backdrop for the engagement, attracting a cross-section of dignitaries and members of the public.

In his remarks, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the GJA for the gesture and encouraged journalists to remain steadfast in their commitment to truth, accuracy, and professionalism. He underscored the critical role of the media in shaping national discourse and urged practitioners to use their platforms responsibly in the interest of development and social cohesion.

The engagement is expected to further deepen the relationship between the media and traditional leadership in the Ashanti Region, fostering mutual respect and collaboration toward the advancement of society.
