On Saturday morning, the former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, joined the Agogo Traditional Council to mourn the passing of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong.

Accompanied by members of the youth group Make Asante Akyem North Great Again (MAANGA) and former NPP parliamentary aspirant Obeng Saaka,

Hon. Baah Agyemang arrived at the Agogo Manhene Palace at approximately 11:00 AM.

Clad in traditional black mourning attire, the former lawmaker led his delegation to offer condolences to the Queen Mother of Agogo, Nana Dwaben Serwaa Afrakoma Oboadum, the bereaved family, and the Traditional Council.

The atmosphere at the palace was one of solemn reflection as the delegation exchanged traditional greetings with the Queen Mother and seated sub-chiefs.

Despite the somber occasion, the arrival of the former MP and his team was met with audible cheers from the gathered public, reflecting his enduring connection to the constituency.

Support for Funeral Rites:

As a gesture of solidarity and respect for the traditional rites, Hon. Baah Agyemang and the MAANGA group presented 50 cartons of bottled water to the council.

Furthermore, the delegation made a significant monetary contribution to the offices of the Paramount Queen and the sub-chiefs to assist with the logistics of the upcoming funeral observances.

Legacy of Leadership and Counsel:

Speaking to the press following the visit, Hon. Baah Agyemang expressed deep sadness over the demise of the veteran statesman.

He highlighted the late Chief’s profound influence on government policy and regional development.

“Nana Akuoko Sarpong played a crucial role in the development of Asante Akyem North, particularly the Agogo township, throughout his career as a public servant, lawyer, and Paramount Chief. I will never forget the wise counsel and guidance he provided me before and during my tenure in Parliament. I am committed to supporting the Traditional Council to ensure he receives a fitting send-off.”

Life of Nana Akuoko Sarpong;

The late Nana Akuoko Sarpong passed away at the age of 88, marking the end of a remarkable 51-year reign.

His legacy is defined by a rare blend of traditional authority and distinguished national service.

Political Career:

He served under the Jerry Rawlings administrations in various high-profile capacities, including Secretary for Health, Secretary for Internal Affairs, and Secretary for Chieftaincy Affairs.

National Service:

In the Fourth Republic, he lent his expertise to the nation as a member of the Council of State.

Local Impact:

Under his leadership, Agogo became a hub for agricultural growth and regional stability.

His passing is widely regarded as the end of an era for the Ashanti Region and Ghana at large, as the nation prepares to celebrate a life dedicated to governance, law, and the preservation of traditional heritage.
