The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has received a trophy from St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School in recognition of the outstanding performance of one of its students in the recently concluded Senior High School Athletics Competition.

The presentation was made when a delegation from the school paid a courtesy call on the DCE to formally present the trophy in honour of their star athlete, Blessed Owusu. The delegation was led by the Rector, Rev. Fr. Henry Mensah, and included the Headmaster, Eric Kyei, two sports officers, and the athlete himself.

Blessed Owusu, a 15-year-old first-year student and native of Atwima Yabi, distinguished himself at the competition by emerging as the overall best athlete. He achieved this feat after winning gold medals in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres events, a performance that earned him admiration from both his school and the wider Atwima Kwanwoma community.

His impressive track record did not end there. The young athlete further demonstrated his growing potential by placing second at the highly competitive “Champion of Champions” event held in Cape Coast. His consistent excellence has since earned him a call-up to represent Ghana at the upcoming World U-20 Championships scheduled to take place in the United States of America.

Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Agyemang Asamoah congratulated the young athlete for his remarkable achievement and commended him for bringing honour to the district. She described his success as a clear indication of the talent and potential that exist among the youth in the area.

She advised Blessed Owusu to remain disciplined, focused, and humble as he progresses in his sporting career. The DCE also encouraged him to maintain a strong balance between his academic work and athletics, stressing that education remains a critical foundation for long-term success.

In recognition of his achievement, the DCE presented the athlete with a cash reward of GH₵2,000 and assured him of the Assembly’s continued support as he prepares for his international assignment. She reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting young talents and promoting sports development within the district.

On his part, Mr. Eric Kyei expressed appreciation to the Assembly for its continuous support towards the school. He, however, appealed for further assistance in acquiring a DRIP machine to improve the school’s athletics track, noting that enhanced training facilities would help nurture more talents and improve sporting performance.

The visit highlighted the strong collaboration between the district authorities and educational institutions in promoting youth development, while also celebrating excellence and inspiring young people to pursue greatness in both academics and sports.
