The Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has visited the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Goaso as part of her working tour of the Ahafo Region, where she engaged students and assessed their welfare and training conditions.

Addressing the students, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah emphasised that health training institutions serve as the foundation of Ghana’s healthcare system. She noted that these institutions play a critical role in transforming commitment into competence, while preparing the next generation of nurses and midwives to serve with professionalism, discipline, skill, and compassion.
She reaffirmed government’s commitment to transitioning health training institutions into Bachelor of Science degree-awarding bodies. According to her, the initiative is designed to improve academic standards, enhance career progression, and align healthcare training with modern educational and professional demands.

The Deputy Minister further disclosed that about 42 health training colleges have successfully completed their assessments and are currently awaiting accreditation to begin degree programmes. She described this milestone as a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s healthcare workforce.

The visit also provided an opportunity for direct interaction with students, who expressed appreciation for the Deputy Minister’s engagement and encouragement, describing the encounter as both impactful and inspiring.
