The Chief Executive Officer of Quality Steps Community School at Feyiase in the Bosomtwe District, Mrs. Mariam MacLean, has called on private school proprietors across Ghana to approach education as a mission rather than merely a business venture.

Addressing participants during the school’s 5th anniversary celebration, Mrs. MacLean emphasized that educating children is a profound responsibility that transcends financial gain and forms an essential part of national development. She underscored that private schools are critical partners in shaping the country’s future and must therefore prioritize the intellectual, moral, and social growth of their students.

“Education is a calling,” Mrs. MacLean said. “When we see it as a mission first, the benefits will naturally follow. Our priority must always be to equip children with knowledge, values, and the confidence they need to contribute meaningfully to society.”

The anniversary event, held on the school premises at Feyiase, brought together parents, teachers, students, community leaders, and stakeholders from the education sector to commemorate the school’s progress and achievements over the past five years.

Mrs. MacLean urged private school proprietors to focus on holistic development, emphasizing character formation, quality teaching, and nurturing responsible future leaders, rather than concentrating solely on profitability. She encouraged proprietors to invest in adequate teaching and learning materials, improved infrastructure, and continuous professional development for teachers, noting that such investments are vital for effective teaching and learning.

She also highlighted the need for collaboration among private school owners, teachers, parents, and the wider community as a strategy to strengthen the quality of education delivered in private institutions.

The celebration featured cultural performances by students, presentations highlighting the school’s journey since its inception, and the recognition of teachers and staff whose dedication has contributed significantly to the growth of the institution.

Over the past five years, Quality Steps Community School has earned a reputation within the Feyiase community for its commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and the moral upbringing of students.

Mrs. MacLean reaffirmed the school’s commitment to continue providing quality education while shaping the next generation of responsible citizens capable of making meaningful contributions to their communities and the nation at large.

This strong message from the CEO serves as a clarion call for private education proprietors nationwide to place purpose and mission at the heart of their operations, ensuring that the pursuit of profit does not overshadow the transformative power of education.
