MTN Ghana reinforced its commitment to youth empowerment, digital education, and financial inclusion at the 20th edition of the Success Africa Summit, held today at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Great Hall Auditorium. The summit, themed “Beyond Vision: Dare, Act & Achieve”, brought together over 1,500 students from second cycle and tertiary institutions across Ghana, providing a platform for learning, inspiration, and engagement with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and change-makers.

MTN Ghana’s participation highlighted the company’s mission to equip young people with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

During the summit, Nana Addai, Mobile Money Manager for Northern Ghana at MTN, delivered an extensive address on digital financial literacy, Mobile Money usage, and fraud prevention. Speaking on the occasion, he marked the 17th anniversary of Mobile Money (MoMo) and traced its evolution from simple deposits, withdrawals, and transfers to a comprehensive platform offering savings, investment, and advanced financial services. Nana Addai explained that Mobile Money has become a convenient, secure, and accessible system, enabling users not only to conduct financial transactions but also to save and earn interest through products such as Yellow Save, which offers returns ranging between five and ten percent depending on the chosen portfolio.

A key focus of his presentation was fraud awareness. He explained that most fraud cases do not involve hacking but instead rely on social engineering, where fraudsters manipulate individuals into authorizing transactions unknowingly. Using real-life examples, he illustrated how fraudsters often pose as friends or family on messaging platforms, claiming urgent need for money, or send fake links requesting sensitive information. Nana Addai emphasized that fraudsters can only succeed with the cooperation of users and urged students to protect their PINs, remain vigilant against suspicious messages, verify requests before sending money, and report any concerns immediately. He further highlighted MTN’s efforts to combat fraud, including blocking fraudulent devices, collaborating with security agencies, and conducting public education campaigns.

He encouraged students to download the MoMo App, noting its detailed transaction statements, advanced management tools, and low data requirements, which provide a secure and efficient Mobile Money experience.

Following this, Mrs. Dzudzorfe Hadzor, Coordinator for Data Devices & Home at MTN Ghana, guided students on efficient data usage and management. She clarified that high data consumption is rarely caused by the network itself and is often influenced by smartphone features, installed applications, and background processes. She explained that modern smartphones frequently download updates, videos, and media files automatically across multiple applications, including TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp, which can lead to rapid data depletion without the user noticing. Mrs. Hadzor advised students on practical strategies to manage their data effectively, such as adjusting app settings to control automatic downloads, selecting larger or long-term data bundles for research and online learning, utilizing midnight bundles for overnight access at lower costs, and exploring app-specific bundles for social media platforms. She reassured students that MTN does not reclaim purchased data and emphasized the availability of customer support and service centers for any assistance. Mrs. Hadzor concluded by stressing that understanding device operations and selecting the appropriate data bundles enables students to maximize digital learning and online research while minimizing unnecessary expenses.

The summit also featured Mr. Albert Prempeh Kusi, CEO of Success Africa Summit 2026, who engaged students on financial literacy, saving strategies, and achieving independence. He highlighted the importance of cultivating good money habits early in life, explaining that disciplined saving, budgeting, and investing in personal skills are essential for long-term financial stability. Mr. Kusi recognized the active participation of students by presenting branded MTN gift items, including specially designed bags, and encouraged them to apply the financial lessons shared by MTN in their daily lives.

Students actively interacted with MTN representatives and Mr. Kusi, posing questions, sharing personal experiences, and expressing gratitude for the practical guidance provided. Many students acknowledged that they now have a clearer understanding of safe Mobile Money usage, fraud prevention, and smart data management, while also gaining insights into building financial independence.

The 2026 Success Africa Summit marked a significant milestone in MTN Ghana’s youth engagement strategy, equipping students with the knowledge, digital tools, and financial awareness necessary to navigate the modern digital era confidently. With plans to expand the summit to other regions, MTN Ghana and the Success Africa Summit continue to empower students across the country, preparing them to thrive academically, financially, and digitally.
