The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has reaffirmed Monday, April 6, 2026, as the final deadline for the demolition of unauthorized structures located around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, as part of efforts to restore order and improve the aesthetic environment of the stadium enclave.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit to media houses, the Assembly referenced its earlier press release dated February 5, 2026, which announced an extension of the initial demolition date to allow affected persons additional time to remove their structures from the area.

According to the statement, the decision to extend the earlier deadline followed appeals made by traditional and political leaders during a meeting of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) held on February 4, 2026. The leaders pleaded for more time to enable traders and other occupants of the unauthorized structures to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the demolition exercise.
Among those who appealed for the extension were Nana Adu Mensah Asare and Nana Baffour Kofi Atobra, as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene. The Assembly subsequently accepted the request in order to provide affected persons with ample time to voluntarily relocate and dismantle their structures.
Despite the extension granted, the Assembly emphasized that the demolition exercise will proceed as scheduled on April 6, 2026. Management of the Assembly stressed that the decision to sanitize the surroundings of the stadium and restore the area’s visual appeal remains non-negotiable.
KMA therefore advised owners of the affected structures to voluntarily remove them before the deadline to avoid any inconvenience when the demolition exercise begins.
The Assembly also used the opportunity to caution the public against individuals allegedly demanding money from affected persons under the pretext of delivering it to the Mayor to influence the demolition exercise.
According to the statement, certain individuals within the public have reportedly been collecting an amount of One Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,500) from occupants of the structures, claiming the money would be given to the Mayor to halt or delay the demolition.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly strongly denied any knowledge or involvement in such activities, stating categorically that neither the Mayor nor the Assembly has authorized anyone to collect money on their behalf.
“The Assembly wishes to state without equivocation that no such money has been received and will not be entertained by the Mayor or the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly,” the statement emphasized.
The Assembly therefore urged affected persons and the general public to disregard such claims and refrain from paying money to any individual or group making such demands.
KMA further appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the authorities to ensure a peaceful and orderly exercise when the demolition begins.
Management expressed confidence that with the support and cooperation of residents, traders and other stakeholders, the exercise will proceed smoothly and contribute significantly to improving sanitation and preserving the integrity of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium area, which remains one of the most important sporting and public landmarks in Kumasi.
