The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Ghana, has officially launched a commemorative book titled “Peru–Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation” to highlight the longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The book was launched on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Accra and forms part of Peru’s “Immortalizing Bilateral Relations” publication series. It chronicles nearly four decades of diplomatic engagement between Peru and Ghana since the establishment of formal relations in 1987. The publication documents major milestones, shared values, and cooperative initiatives that have strengthened the partnership between the two nations over the years.

Delivering his remarks at the launch, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described the book as an important documentation of the shared journey between the two countries. According to him, the publication reflects the steady building of diplomatic bridges between two nations located on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean but united by common values such as democracy, multilateralism, and inclusive development.

The Minister further highlighted that both countries share a remarkable legacy within the United Nations, having produced two distinguished former Secretaries-General: Javier Pérez de Cuéllar of Peru and Kofi Annan of Ghana. He noted that their leadership continues to serve as an inspiration to global diplomacy.

Honourable Ablakwa also stressed that Peru remains an important partner for Ghana in advancing cooperation in areas such as trade, education, tourism, culture, and multilateral diplomacy. He added that the commemorative publication serves not only as a reflection on past achievements but also as a roadmap for the future, encouraging both countries to translate their long-standing diplomatic goodwill into concrete economic and development partnerships.

In her address, the Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, Rosa Liliana Gómez de Weston, emphasised that the commemorative book represents a tangible expression of the friendship that has developed between the two countries over the years.

She explained that Ghana and Peru share similar historical experiences shaped by struggles for independence, nation-building, and the pursuit of national development. According to her, relations between the two nations continue to grow through expanding trade, cultural exchanges, academic collaboration, and cooperation within international organisations.

The colourful launch event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, senior government officials, members of academia, and other distinguished guests, all of whom gathered to celebrate the enduring partnership between the two countries and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
