The Electoral Commission (EC) of the OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies has officially opened nominations for the 2026 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) elections, paving the way for a new chapter in student leadership at the institution.

The announcement was made by the Chairperson of the EC, Prince Owusu Sekyere, who disclosed that nominations opened on Monday and will close on Thursday. The exercise marks the formal commencement of the electoral process that will culminate in the election of new student leaders on March 23, 2026.

According to Mr. Sekyere, several key executive positions are up for contest. These include SRC President, General Secretary, Organizer, Chaplain, Treasurer, Women’s Commissioner, and Public Relations Officer (PRO). He explained that all aspiring candidates will undergo a thorough vetting process to ensure they meet the required qualifications before being cleared to contest in the main elections.

He assured the student body that the Commission is committed to conducting a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process. “We are determined to ensure fairness and integrity at every stage of the exercise,” he emphasized, adding that the EC will work diligently to deliver a smooth and well-organized poll.

Mr. Sekyere further encouraged qualified and passionate students to seize the opportunity to serve, noting that leadership within the SRC offers a platform to advocate for the welfare and interests of the student population.

The Students’ Representative Council remains the official mouthpiece of students, playing a crucial role in engaging school authorities, addressing student concerns, and initiating programmes that promote academic excellence and social development.

As the nomination period progresses, anticipation continues to build within the school community. Students are optimistic about a peaceful electoral process and hopeful that the next cohort of SRC executives will provide visionary leadership and effectively champion their collective interests.
