The Government of Germany has donated operational equipment valued at approximately GH¢1 million to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to strengthen border security operations and promote safe, orderly and regular migration in Ghana.

The items were officially handed over at a brief ceremony in Accra by the German Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Holger Grossman, as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation between Germany and Ghana in the areas of migration management and security sector support.

The donation comprised a 16-seater Foton View CS2 bus to improve operational mobility, as well as laptops, tablets and printers to enhance administrative efficiency and field coordination. The package also included protective helmets and bulletproof vests aimed at improving officer safety, particularly for personnel deployed to sensitive and high-risk operational zones.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Service, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, expressed sincere appreciation to the German government for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention.

He noted that the vehicle would significantly enhance the Service’s mobility and rapid response capacity, especially along Ghana’s northern borders where officers are frequently engaged in patrol duties and border surveillance. He added that the IT equipment would improve data management, communication and operational coordination, while the protective gear would provide essential safety assurance for officers working under demanding conditions.

Mr. Amadu reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to strengthening border control systems, combating irregular migration and addressing transnational security threats in line with Ghana’s national security priorities and international obligations.

He further described the donation as a strong symbol of the enduring partnership between Ghana and Germany, underscoring the shared commitment of both countries to promoting secure borders, safer migration pathways and regional stability within West Africa.

The support forms part of broader cooperation efforts aimed at enhancing institutional capacity, improving border governance and reinforcing collaborative responses to emerging migration and security challenges.

The ceremony concluded with renewed assurances of continued collaboration between Ghana and Germany in advancing peace, security and sustainable migration management.
