Paapa Osei, Head of Legal and Reputation Management at MobileMoney LTD, has been named in the prestigious GC Powerlist: Ghana 2026 by Legal 500, earning recognition among the country’s most distinguished General Counsel and senior in-house legal leaders.

The Legal 500 GC Powerlist is compiled after months of independent research, peer review, and rigorous vetting, making inclusion a significant professional milestone within the global legal community. The list celebrates in-house counsel who demonstrate strategic influence, technical excellence, integrity, and measurable impact within their organisations and industries.

Mr. Osei is widely credited with establishing and leading the Legal and Reputation Management function at MobileMoney LTD, Ghana’s largest fintech and Electronic Money Issuer, and a leading revenue contributor within the MTN Group. In his role, he provides strategic legal direction, oversees regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement, and champions strong corporate governance practices within Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital financial services sector.

He has also played a central role in the successful localisation of MobileMoney LTD, steering its transition from a subsidiary of Scancom PLC to a fully owned MTN Group entity. His leadership during this transition strengthened the company’s governance structures, enhanced enterprise risk management frameworks, and reinforced regulatory alignment in an increasingly complex fintech environment.

With more than two decades of professional experience spanning fintech, telecommunications, consultancy, beverage manufacturing, construction, and pharmaceuticals, Mr. Osei brings broad cross-industry expertise to his current role. His work has contributed to strengthening internal controls, safeguarding corporate reputation, enhancing stakeholder confidence, and supporting sustainable business growth.

Reacting to the recognition, Mr. Osei described the honour as both humbling and motivating, noting that this marks the second time he has been named to the GC Powerlist.

“This recognition reflects the collective effort of the exceptional teams I have had the privilege to work with over the years. In a rapidly evolving fintech environment, the role of in-house counsel extends beyond legal advisory — it involves enabling innovation responsibly, protecting customer trust, and contributing meaningfully to national development. I am honoured to be recognised among such accomplished professionals,” he said.

Mr. Osei holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Economics and Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Birmingham. He obtained his legal qualifications from BPP University and the University of Law, where he completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) MSc in Law and Business Management. He also holds a certificate in ESG Leadership from the University of Cambridge and completed his professional legal training at the Ghana School of Law, qualifying as both a solicitor and barrister.

Other MTN Ghana legal leaders recognised at the event include Pala Asiedu Ofori, Company Secretary of Scancom PLC; Nana Kofi Asare, General Manager for Legal and Regulatory Affairs; and Abena Fordjour Acquah of MTN Global Connect – Bayobab.

MobileMoney LTD has congratulated Mr. Osei on this notable achievement and commended his continued leadership in advancing legal excellence, upholding ethical standards, and promoting responsible innovation within Ghana’s fintech ecosystem.

End.
