Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong has been re-elected for a third consecutive term as Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), securing 58 votes out of 66 total Assembly members, representing 87.87% of the votes cast.

The election, held today, Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Prempe Assembly Hall, followed the withdrawal of his sole contender, Ernest Baffour Ofori, which cleared the way for a smooth and uncontested vote. All 58 members present voted “Yes” in favor of Hon. Frimpong, with none rejecting his candidacy.

Under Section 27 of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), a Presiding Member must be elected by at least two-thirds of members present and voting. Hon. Frimpong’s decisive 87.87% support far exceeded this requirement, reflecting strong confidence in his leadership among Assembly members.

Hon. Frimpong’s tenure has been widely praised for maintaining order during Assembly proceedings, promoting collaboration among members, and spearheading key developmental initiatives across the Kumasi metropolis. Analysts have described his re-election as a reflection of political unity, maturity, and consensus within the Assembly.

The voting process at Prempe Assembly Hall was conducted in an orderly and transparent manner, with members casting their ballots in a “Yes” or “No” format. The outcome ensures continuity in leadership, providing stability and experience as the Assembly pursues governance and developmental priorities in the coming term.

Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong’s third-term re-election underscores the trust and confidence the Assembly places in his leadership to guide the KMA in delivering effective governance and development for the Kumasi metropolis.
