
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to witness the safe discharge of the infant who was allegedly stolen at the Mamprobi Polyclinic and later rescued through a coordinated security operation.
The baby had been receiving medical attention at the Child Health Department of the hospital following the traumatic incident. Through the swift intervention and dedicated care of health professionals, the child made a full recovery and was discharged in good health.

During her visit, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey expressed profound appreciation to the medical team for their professionalism, timely response and commitment to quality healthcare delivery. She announced that Government, acting on the directive of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, had settled the baby’s medical bills in full to relieve the family of any financial burden.

The Minister further disclosed that the baby’s mother has received psychological support to help her cope with the distressing experience and is responding positively. She indicated that both mother and child will return to the hospital for periodic medical reviews to ensure the baby’s continued well-being.

As part of her engagement at the hospital, the Minister visited the Child Protection Unit to commend staff for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding children and supporting vulnerable families. She emphasised that the incident reinforces the need for constant vigilance and stronger collaboration between healthcare providers, social protection institutions and security agencies.

In a follow-up move, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey proceeded to the Dansoman Police Station, where she met officers handling the case. She praised the police for their swift and coordinated efforts, which led to the successful rescue of the infant.
The Minister was briefed on the progress of investigations and ongoing legal proceedings. She was informed that the accused person has been arraigned before court, with investigations continuing to ensure that justice is served.

In a demonstration of empathy and responsible leadership, the Sector Minister engaged the accused person and a close relative, stressing the importance of due process while reaffirming Government’s firm commitment to justice and child protection.
Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey also visited the Mamprobi Polyclinic to settle outstanding medical bills incurred at the facility prior to the baby’s transfer to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Conveying appreciation from President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady, the Minister thanked Ghanaians, particularly members of the media, for the overwhelming support shown to the family throughout the ordeal. She noted that the successful rescue and recovery of the baby demonstrate the strength of coordinated institutional response in protecting children.

“The joy of all this is that the baby is well,” the Minister stated, urging the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting national child protection efforts.
