The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GIDA VE TARIM University in Turkey, marking a major step in enhancing the country’s agricultural capacity and human resource development. The agreement was signed on behalf of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, by Hon. Eric Opoku, Minister of Agriculture.

The partnership aims to provide Ghanaian students with access to world-class education and professional training in agriculture, with a focus on equipping them with practical skills and technical knowledge needed to modernize and strengthen Ghana’s agro-industrial sector. Through the MoU, scholarship programs will be made available for a range of agriculture-related disciplines, fostering the development of highly skilled professionals capable of driving innovation and growth within the sector.

GIDA VE TARIM University, a leading institution in agricultural studies, will collaborate with the Ministry to ensure that Ghanaian students benefit from advanced training, research opportunities, and exposure to modern agricultural technologies. The program is designed to enhance capacity building, technical proficiency, and knowledge transfer, enabling Ghanaian agriculturists to implement best practices that will improve productivity and sustainability.

Hon. Eric Opoku emphasized that the partnership reflects the Government’s commitment to investing in human capital development and ensuring that Ghanaian students are well-prepared to contribute effectively to the national economy. “This collaboration provides an important platform for our students and professionals to gain advanced skills and expertise, which will translate into a stronger, more resilient agricultural sector,” he said.
The MoU also promotes research collaboration and knowledge exchange between Ghana and Turkey, creating opportunities for innovation and the adoption of modern agricultural techniques. This initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader goal of developing a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting the growth and sustainability of the nation’s agro-industrial sector.

Through this partnership, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture demonstrates a strong commitment to building local capacity, fostering innovation, and advancing Ghana’s agricultural sector as a key driver of economic development and food security.
