Following a productive meeting with Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang at Jubilee House, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, took time to pay a heartfelt visit to his Alma Mater, the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. The visit was described by Dr. Amoakohene as a deeply nostalgic and fulfilling experience, reflecting on the institution’s pivotal role in shaping his journey in medicine and public service.

During the visit, Dr. Amoakohene reconnected with several distinguished mentors who played key roles in his academic and professional development. These included Professor Alfred E. Yawson, Provost of the College of Health Sciences and his former lecturer in Community Health; Professor Yvonne Dei-Adomakoh, Dean of the University of Ghana Medical School and his Haematology lecturer; and Professor Samuel S. Antwi-Baffour, Dean of the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, who taught him Immunology. Dr. Amoakohene acknowledged the enduring impact of their mentorship, which continues to inspire generations of medical professionals.

The Regional Minister also used the visit to highlight the vision of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and transforming medical education. Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the strategic investments under initiatives such as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (#MahamaCare), which focus on expanding infrastructure, enhancing research capabilities, and supporting specialist training.

“Our commitment remains clear: to train world-class health professionals, expand specialist care, and build a resilient healthcare system that meets the needs of our people while securing the future of our nation,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.

The visit served not only as a moment of personal reflection for the Ashanti Regional Minister but also as a reaffirmation of the government’s dedication to achieving quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
