The Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly has officially introduced a quarterly magazine, “Atwima Kwanwoma In Focus,” as part of efforts to strengthen public accountability, transparency and citizen engagement in local governance.

The maiden edition of the publication was unveiled at a ceremony held at the District Assembly’s Conference Room in Twedie, drawing the attendance of traditional authorities, Assembly Members, heads of departments, representatives of political parties, development partners, religious leaders and members of the media.

Launching the magazine, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, described the initiative as a deliberate step towards open governance and responsible leadership. She explained that the publication will serve as an official record of the Assembly’s development interventions, policies and achievements across various sectors.

According to her, the In Focus magazine will be produced quarterly to ensure that residents are regularly updated on projects being undertaken in their communities, as well as on decisions and programmes implemented by the Assembly.

“Accountability is the foundation of good governance. Our people deserve to know how resources are utilized and what progress is being made. This magazine provides a clear and structured account of our collective work as a district,” she stated.

Hon. Agyemang Asamoah emphasized that the publication is not intended to promote individuals but to reflect the collective efforts of the Assembly, stakeholders and residents in advancing development.

The magazine captures a broad range of interventions undertaken by the Assembly, including improvements in administration, infrastructure, health, education, sanitation, agriculture and water supply.

In the area of governance, the Assembly undertook renovation works, including the repainting of the District Administration Block and the Trede Area Council to enhance the working environment. Billboards were also mounted to increase public awareness of the Assembly’s services, while institutional history boards documenting past and present District Chief Executives, Presiding Members and District Coordinating Directors were installed to preserve the Assembly’s legacy.

On infrastructure development, several roads within the district were reshaped to improve accessibility and facilitate economic activities. These include the Nwinsa–Nkwanta–Amoafo stretch, Kotwi Special Ice road, Biragokrom, Asaago and the Bekwaime–Kyekyewere road. The renovation of the Ampabame No. 1 Bridge also improved safety and mobility for residents.

In the health sector, construction commenced on three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Asaago, Nweneso No. 1 and Nweneso No. 3 to expand access to primary healthcare. In education, the Assembly reshaped the compound of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ Senior High School and initiated the construction of a three-unit classroom block at New Ejuampong. A contract was also awarded for a six-unit classroom block at Afasiebon Basic School. Additional support was extended to Yabi D/A Junior High School, Aburaso D/A School and Adum-Afrancho School to address pressing infrastructural needs.

Sanitation efforts included the evacuation of major refuse dump sites across several communities and the distribution of skip containers to improve waste management. Sanitary tools and streetlight bulbs were supplied to all 33 Electoral Areas to enhance environmental cleanliness and public safety.

To support agriculture, the Assembly recognized hardworking farmers during the 41st Farmers’ Day Celebration and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the sector. Sixteen mechanized boreholes were also constructed in various communities to improve access to potable water.

The Assembly further highlighted the commencement of the Affordable Housing Units Project at Trede by the Ministry of Works and Housing to help address housing challenges within the district. Plans are also underway for the establishment of an educational complex from kindergarten to university level with support from development partners.

Hon. Agyemang Asamoah reiterated that the introduction of Atwima Kwanwoma In Focus marks a new chapter in the district’s governance approach, anchored on transparency, inclusiveness and measurable development outcomes.

She expressed appreciation to the Central Government, Assembly Members, traditional leaders, staff, development partners and residents for their continuous support and collaboration.

The ceremony concluded with the official unveiling of the magazine, symbolizing the Assembly’s renewed commitment to open governance and sustained development in Atwima Kwanwoma.
