The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP), on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, received a delegation from Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) as part of ongoing efforts to advance the country’s civil nuclear energy programme.

The delegation, led by the Executive Chief Director of Nuclear Power Ghana, Dr. Stephen Yamoah, briefed the Deputy Minister on significant progress made toward the development of nuclear energy for peaceful and civilian purposes. Discussions focused on key milestones achieved, including site assessments, community engagement initiatives, vendor technology selection, capacity building, infrastructure development, and regulatory compliance measures designed to ensure the highest standards of safety and security.

Dr. Yamoah also highlighted plans for grid integration and Ghana’s strategic intention to export electricity through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), positioning the country as a potential regional hub for nuclear energy development. He reaffirmed Nuclear Power Ghana’s commitment to transparency, safety, and adherence to international best practices in the implementation of the programme.

In his remarks, Honourable Quayson commended Nuclear Power Ghana for its structured and forward-looking approach to programme implementation. He reiterated the Ministry’s support for initiatives that promote the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technology in line with international standards and Ghana’s development priorities.

The Deputy Minister further emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration among relevant state institutions, development partners, and regulatory bodies to ensure the successful realization of Ghana’s nuclear energy objectives.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nuclear Power Ghana, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s institutional capacity and advancing the country’s long-term energy security and regional leadership ambitions.
