The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has intensified investments in critical power infrastructure as part of sustained efforts to guarantee the delivery of safe, reliable and quality electricity across the country.

The ongoing investments span key components of the electricity distribution value chain, including Bulk Supply Points, high-voltage transmission lines, primary substations, power transformers, distribution transformers, low-voltage networks and customer metering systems. According to the company, these upgrades are essential to strengthening the distribution network, improving system efficiency and meeting Ghana’s growing energy demand.

Speaking during an off-studio radio interview on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi on Monday morning, the Head of Public Relations for ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Mr. Collins Manu, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustaining reliable power supply in support of national development.

“Our commitment is simple: to provide safe, reliable and quality electricity to support national development and meet the growing energy needs of the country,” Mr. Manu stated. He noted that this vision remains the driving force behind ECG’s operational and investment decisions, adding that it reflects the leadership focus of the Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena.

Mr. Manu explained that beyond infrastructure expansion, ECG continues to prioritise routine maintenance and system upgrades to enhance network resilience and minimise power interruptions. He stressed that these interventions are necessary to support economic growth, industrial activities and improved living standards nationwide.

Touching on the recent power disturbance experienced in parts of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Manu clarified that the outage was caused by upstream technical challenges beyond ECG’s immediate distribution operations.

“The outage in Ashanti was due to upstream technical challenges, and ECG promptly liaised with relevant stakeholders to ensure swift restoration of power,” he explained. “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers.”

He assured customers that ECG remains committed to working closely with sector stakeholders to improve response time to faults and reduce the impact of system disturbances whenever they occur.

Mr. Manu emphasised that ECG’s continuous investment in infrastructure remains central to delivering dependable electricity services, improving customer experience and supporting Ghana’s broader development agenda.
