Residents of Numereso Climb Mountain for Mobile Network Access as Connectivity Crisis Persists

Residents of Numereso, a farming community in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, are enduring severe communication difficulties as they are compelled to climb a nearby mountain just to access mobile phone networks.

For several years, the community has lived without reliable mobile connectivity following a failed attempt in 2018 to provide network services. Since then, residents have had no option but to travel to a particular spot on a mountain where weak signals can occasionally be accessed to make or receive phone calls.

According to a report by Oyerepa News, led by journalist Joseph Amoateng, residents often spend more than three hours at the mountain’s signal point in order to communicate with relatives, conduct business, or attend to emergencies. Many are forced to hire motorbikes to navigate the rough terrain, increasing the cost and risk involved in making simple phone calls.

The situation has raised serious concerns about privacy and security. With people clustered in the bush and openly making calls, criminals have reportedly taken advantage of the situation, targeting residents and robbing them of their mobile phones. This has further heightened fear and anxiety within the community.

Speaking to the media, the Unit Committee Secretary of Numereso, Mr. Isaac Kyei Baffour Abebrese, lamented the prolonged lack of mobile network services, describing it as a major setback to community safety and development. He explained that the absence of reliable communication makes it extremely difficult for residents to report crimes or emergencies to the police and other security agencies in a timely manner.

Mr. Abebrese noted that in critical situations such as theft, attacks, health emergencies, or fire outbreaks, the inability to quickly place a call often worsens the impact of incidents, leaving residents vulnerable and helpless.

Residents have therefore appealed passionately to the government, telecommunications companies, and relevant authorities to intervene and provide a permanent mobile network solution for the community. They believe that restoring reliable connectivity will not only improve communication but also enhance security, economic activities, and overall quality of life in Numereso.

Until a lasting solution is provided, the people of Numereso say they will continue to endure the daily struggle of climbing mountains in search of a basic service that many other communities take for granted.
