Tepa Government Hospital Struggles With Nurse Shortages and Inadequate Staff Housing

The Tepa Government Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region is currently grappling with a severe shortage of nurses and inadequate staff accommodation, challenges that are adversely affecting the delivery of healthcare services in the area.

According to the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Frederick Kwaku Ofori, the hospital is overwhelmed due to insufficient personnel, placing immense pressure on the few health professionals on duty. He revealed that the lack of proper residential facilities for staff further compounds the problem, disrupting workflow and diminishing service output.

Dr. Ofori raised these concerns during the celebration of Nurses and Midwives Week, which coincided with the launch of the proposed Ghana Staff Housing Project at the hospital. The event was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ahafo Ano North, Hon. Kwasi Adusei, who acknowledged the pressing challenges faced by the hospital.

Appealing for urgent intervention, Dr. Ofori called on government authorities and relevant stakeholders to deploy additional nurses and address the accommodation deficit to improve healthcare delivery.

In response, MCE Hon. Kwasi Adusei assured the hospital staff that he would present their requests to the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to facilitate the posting of more personnel. He emphasized that Tepa Government Hospital is gradually becoming a referral facility, necessitating increased manpower and infrastructure support to meet growing healthcare demands.

The MCE further urged philanthropists and benevolent organizations to contribute resources to support the hospital’s development, highlighting the critical role of collaborative efforts in strengthening health services for the community.
