Kasoa Tragedy: Mother Allegedly Kills Newborn and Dumps Body by Okrudu River

Kasoa has been left in shock and deep sorrow after a three-day-old baby was found dead and abandoned along the Okrudu River in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region. The heartbreaking discovery, made by residents early Friday, has triggered widespread outrage and calls for swift justice.
According to preliminary information, the newborn is believed to have been killed by the mother before the lifeless body was dumped at the riverbank under circumstances yet to be fully uncovered. The motive behind the alleged act remains unknown, leaving the community grappling with questions as they mourn the tragic loss of an innocent life.
Eyewitnesses who first spotted the baby’s body described the scene as distressing and traumatic. They revealed that by the time they reached the location, some animals had already begun feeding on the remains—an image that has further deepened the pain and anger among residents.
The Awutu Senya East Municipal NADMO Director, Nash Nyandey, confirmed the incident and described it as one of the most disturbing cases the municipality has encountered in recent times. He disclosed that NADMO is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure the suspect is identified and apprehended without delay.
Mr. Nyandey noted that response teams quickly moved to secure the scene and retrieve the baby’s body, while investigators began collecting evidence that may help in tracing the mother or anyone connected to the crime. He urged residents to provide any information that may assist law enforcement agencies in their pursuit of the suspect.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed discussions about maternal mental health, support systems for young mothers, and the social pressures that often go unnoticed. Community leaders and residents have called for urgent interventions to prevent similar occurrences, emphasizing the need for education, counselling services, and improved reporting mechanisms for vulnerable mothers.
Meanwhile, the baby’s remains have been taken into custody by the relevant authorities as investigations continue. The Kasoa community, deeply shaken by the incident, is demanding justice as they attempt to come to terms with the brutal and senseless loss of a newborn child.
